Who We Are

Buffalo Catholic Cemeteries serves families across Western New York through a network of cemeteries dedicated to remembrance, reflection, and long-term care.

History

Buffalo Catholic Cemeteries has served families across Western New York since 1934, when Bishop William Turner appointed Msgr. James Hogan as the first director of Catholic Cemeteries. Under his leadership, several cemeteries were blessed and established, including Holy Cross in Lackawanna, Mount Olivet in Kenmore, Holy Sepulchre in Cheektowaga, and Gate of Heaven in Lewiston.

As the needs of the community continued to grow, leadership transition in 1955 to Msgr. Joseph J. Sekelsky. During his tenure, Assumption Cemetery on Grand Island and Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lockport were established, further expanding Buffalo Catholic Cemeteries’ presence throughout the region.
